Manvers Engineering Ltd receive highly-coveted Queen's Award for Enterprise for their innovative product 'Plant Nappy'

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Innovation, Lord-Lieutenants, Recipients, Uncategorized

Why did you apply for a Queen’s Award?

Manvers Engineering were awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise (Innovation) in 2018, in recognition of their work in the field of spill control, and in particular their innovative and environmentally friendly spill mitigation product, Plant Nappy.

Invented by Managing Director Colin Ibbotson, Plant Nappy is designed to sit under any plant or machinery which could potentially leak fuel (oil/diesel). Unlike other solutions at the time (e.g drip trays), Plant Nappy not only holds any spillage in its base, but it also allows any falling rainwater to pass through its sidewall, removing potentially damaging pollutants in the process. This means that Plant Nappy can be left outdoors in all weather conditions, giving peace of mind to the user, and ensuring they don’t leave themselves open to fines, or damage to their reputation. The product is available in three standard sizes, but bespoke sizes can also be manufactured to customers’ requirements.

What has winning a Queen’s Award meant for your business?

Winning a Queen’s Award sends a message out to their valued customers, to emphasise just how serious Manvers Engineering are about creating innovative, environmentally friendly, spill control solutions. Winning the Queen’s Award has given Manvers Engineering a huge boost, and has opened doors that were previously difficult to get through. The award is very highly respected, and is a great conversation piece with clients. The presentation ceremony (seen in the image above) was held in January 2019, where the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire was welcomed to the Manvers Engineering premises in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to present the award to Managing Director, Colin Ibbotson.

Do you have any advice for future applicants?

Manvers Engineering would encourage any successful and innovative business to apply for a Queen’s Award. Whilst a perception may be that they are only handed out to larger, Blue Chip companies, Manvers Engineering serve as proof that even smaller, traditional, family owned businesses can claim this prestigious accolade.
