Founded in 1980, by Chairman Glyn Woolley, Coombe Castle is based in the Wiltshire town of Melksham, employing 35 people. We export cream, butter and cheese products from a range of farms, creameries and dairies around the UK and Ireland.

Now in its 52nd year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country. Managing Director Darren Larvin said:

We are thrilled to receive our fourth Queen’s Award, a feat few other companies in dairy industry and general food sector can match. It is a great honour for all our employees at Coombe Castle who’ve worked so hard over the years to build this business. This award is recognition of the team’s effort and dedication and the loyalty of our suppliers and customers around the world.

At Coombe Castle we pride ourselves on exporting great tasting British and Irish dairy products to over 30 countries across the world. Producing our own range of luxurious English creams and partnering with over 40 suppliers.

In order to win the award, Coombe Castle demonstrated substantial year-on-year growth over 6 years with sales growth of nearly 50%. This strong sales growth means we have moved to new premises tripling our warehouse and office space.

Mr Larvin said:

This has been a very successful period for us with much of our growth coming from our markets in the USA and Canada, however we’ve also been able to develop in new markets like China, Mexico, South Africa and New Zealand.

On Friday 20 July we hosted an award ceremony at our Melksham offices. It was attended by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Rose Troughton, Michelle Donelan MP, and the Mayor of Melksham, Councillor Adrienne Westbrook. Staff were all presented with a commemorative gift, champagne reception and a fun day at the races. A fabulous celebration for the staff who have worked and continue to work hard to build this business.

Coombe Castle also won Queen’s Awards in 2001, 2007 and 2013.
