My Nametags: from business in a spare room to Queen's Awards winner

My Nametags was launched by founder and CEO Lars B. Andersen in his spare room 14 years ago. They now distribute to 129 countries worldwide and have been awarded the The Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade in recognition of their significant growth in overseas markets.

The Queen’s Award is important to the company as it helps to indicate the quality of their product and positive approach to customer services. International trade now makes up more than a third of My Nametags’ total sales. My Nametags are using the award emblem across their website and also display it prominently on every set of UK name labels that leave their production facilities in London.

Commenting on their success in The Queen’s Awards, Lars said:

It is an incredibly exciting time for My Nametags as the company continues to grow quickly. This year has already seen us launch in several new international markets, as well as a move to a much larger office to keep up with growing demand. We are thrilled to have our success recognised by an award as prestigious as The Queen’s Award. The prestige of this award is important in helping us to build trust with new and existing customers, allowing them to feel confident that our labels are of the highest quality.

My Nametags' international success is largely down to Lars’ understanding of foreign markets and languages. Lars speaks 7 languages and believes that this has played a part in allowing the company to grow faster than other SMEs. Within 12 months of establishing the business, My Nametags was exporting to several countries and at one time had more foreign bank accounts than employees.

Lesley Batchelor OBE, Director General IOE International Trade and part of The Queen’s Award judging panel, said:

My congratulations go out to My Nametags. The Queen’s Award is the highest accolade a business can win. This is an award like no other and winning it brings both recognition for the team and for the company worldwide.

The award is valid for 5 years and gives My Nametags the right to use The Queen’s Awards emblem and fly the Queen’s Awards flag at their main office in Wandsworth.
