We are a specialist manufacturer of highly technical composite materials based in Trafford Park, Manchester and we’re delighted and honoured that we won the Queen’s Award for the second year running.
Why did we enter for a Queen’s Award? Well, Tenmat is a very forward thinking and innovative company with a large number of technically qualified engineers. We had a desire to formally recognise recent developments for our ground breaking products, in this case in the Innovation category. We felt that there was no better platform to do this than by securing the prestigious Queen’s Award for Innovation, recognised on a global scale and held in very high regard by all.
As a result of winning this Award, the phone activity from suppliers and customers has increased and all want to either congratulate you (or get some advertising off you). Overall we feel that the profile of the company has been raised to another level.
The Lord Lieutenant's visit was a great day and from the outset it was unclear how this would pan out, having not organized such an event before or on such a large scale. A factory tour preceded the formal presentation and refreshments and all employees attended, along with several dignitaries. It was a very proud day for us and I do not think the day could have gone any smoother (maybe we were lucky but the sun was also shining).
Following on from the great honour in 2012 (and of course the presentation at BuckinghamPalace) we thought we would like to have another go at a different category. Also we recognised we were in a fairly unique position having achieved outstanding performance in the export business over the past 3 years with over 20% growth Year on Year. We therefore thought we had a good chance of success.
You never know, maybe we could make it a hat trick with another Queen’s Award for 2014. The Tenmat team will certainly be working to achieve this goal.
