There are so many firms of all sizes that enter the awards there is no such thing as a typical winner.
This year we had West Midlands ‘giant’ Jaguar Land Rover winning their first Sustainable Development award and at the same time Gloucestershire based company Floortex with 11 employees won an International Trade award. Innovations awards were given to Worcestershire based Gtech (59 staff) for their new vacuum cleaner design and also Retrogenix (9 staff) who are based in Derbyshire who won an award for inventing a new way of checking cell proteins.
If your firm is registered in the UK with a minimum of 2 full-time staff and you have been trading for 2 or 3 years … you’re in the mix!
Entries are online only. By going to www.queensawards.org.uk and creating an account you will be able to fill in your company details and get going. This section of the form takes about 10 minutes from start to finish.
Remember this is a competition and you may not succeed first time. If you are not successful you will receive expert feedback with advice on how to strengthen your next application.
There are 3 business awards and 1 for individuals.
The business awards are:
- International Trade (requires 3 years outstanding growth or 6 years continual – neither can have any dips in overseas trading figures).
- Sustainable Development, a recent winner’s tip was ‘Google search the 3 Pillars of Sustainable Development!’ (Social, Environmental, Economic).
- Innovation, if you can demonstrate your idea or product has caused a ripple in the market due to its originality - and you can demonstrate it has been commercially available for at least two years that will be sufficient for the competition guidelines.
The individual award is for Enterprise Promotion.
This award is for people who are seen as deserving wider recognition for their selfless acts in promoting enterprise above and beyond their usual work remit.
This differs from the others in that individuals can only be nominated for this one by the online application form.
Who do you know who is ‘out there’ giving guidance or encouraging others to start businesses? Nominate someone you know who is going ABCD (above and beyond the call of duty) with helping others.
And what does a typical winner look like?
Here’s just some of our recent winners, there’s nothing typical about any of them is there?
