Weāre delighted to celebrate Sophie and the Costello Medical team on their achievement as Kingās Award recipients.
ā 1. What does receiving a Kingās Award mean to you and your organisation?
Receiving a Kingās Award is a tremendous honour for Costello Medical. Understanding where a business is truly doing well can be difficult ā traditionally, success is measured by financial figures, but those only tell a small part of the story. The Kingās Award recognises the kind of company we are, the culture we foster, and the impact we have, providing a world-renowned validation of our teamās dedication and innovation. For me personally, itās inspiring to see that staying true to our values and vision can be recognised at the highest level.
ā 2. What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector?
My journey as a woman in the medical sector has been both challenging and rewarding. Leadership is difficult ā it involves tough decisions, competing priorities, and constant problem-solving. Iāve learned that it becomes even harder if you try to be someone youāre not. Discovering a leadership style that is authentic to me, rather than conforming to pre-conceived ideas of what a leader āshouldā be, has been essential. Alongside that, Iām incredibly proud of the wonderful women in our leadership team, whose talent, dedication, and insight make Costello Medical the organisation it is today.
ā 3. What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles?
Believe in your expertise and embrace your authentic leadership style ā donāt feel pressured to fit a mould. Leadership comes with difficult decisions and challenges, and itās far easier to navigate them when you lead in a way that feels true to you. Most importantly surround yourself with people who challenge and support you. I have been incredibly lucky to have had a team who promote both high standards and ambition alongside genuine care for each, which has been so instrumental in allowing us all to thrive.
ā 4. Is there anything else youād like to share as part of International Womenās Day?
International Womenās Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women across every sector and reflect on the importance of gender equality. I hope organisations continue to foster environments where women can lead authentically, and innovate. Iām proud that at Costello Medical, our leadership team includes many incredible women whose vision and talent make a real difference every day.
