In continuation of hashtag#InternationalWomensDay, we’re delighted to highlight Adriana and her team as recipients of the King’s Award. Thank you, Adriana, for sharing your thoughtful reflections for International Women’s Day — reminding us of the importance of championing women in business, celebrating their achievements, and continuing to push for meaningful progress on gender equality.
Congratulations once again on this well‑deserved honour. šŸ‘‘šŸ’œ

⭐ What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation?

It is an absolutely honour to have been recognized with The King’s Award for Enterprise. This award underlines our determination to grow our international business, collaborating with our phenomenal international partners [and customers] and our role in championing British produce globally, which is renowned for its quality, traditional skills and sustainability. These values define who we are and reflect our ambition to be recognised as the leading producer and champion of premium British artisan condiments.

⭐ What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector?

I’m originally from Brazil and now also a British citizen, having lived in the UK for almost 22 years. As an expat, I had to work hard to find my place here, and I’m deeply grateful to the people who gave me the chance to grow professionally. Although most of my career has been in sales and marketing roles, my early background was in the hospitality industry. My move into international trade, specifically within the food and drink sector, happened by chance over a decade ago, and it’s a path I’ve been proud to follow ever since.
The food and drink sector remains largely male‑dominated, and as a result, all of my mentors in the industry have been men. I’ve been fortunate, though as they consistently encouraged my peers to listen to my perspective, which helped me grow, feel supported, and build confidence in my own abilities. Although I haven’t been mentored by women, many have inspired me through their professionalism and resilience. I hope that my own career journey can, in turn, inspire other women to believe in themselves and pursue their ambitions with confidence.
Working with people from all over the world has made it very clear that job titles carry weight, especially for women. I’ve experienced moments where the tone of a conversation shifted the instant someone noticed my job title on my business card. It was a stark reminder of how perceptions can change based on hierarchy, even when your competence hasn’t.

⭐ What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles?

Believe in your abilities. Confidence is a powerful asset, and you should carry it with pride. Just remember there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance, so stay grounded as you grow.
