Celebrating International Women's Day

Managing Director of Gibson Games, Kate Gibson, shares her experience of receiving the King's Award for Sustainability, as part of her family-run business.

⭐ What does receiving a King’s Award mean to you and your organisation?

It’s a huge honour and privilege to win a Kings Award for Sustainability. As a British, family company, we have worked hard to prioritise people and planet across the business, becoming a B Corp in 2023 and a Kings Award winner in 2025. It’s not an easy thing to achieve and it is testament to the efforts of our entire team past and present.

⭐ What has your personal journey been like as a woman in business/your sector?

Today there are many women leading businesses in our industry, but that wasn’t the case when I began my career. Supporting other women in business has always been important to me. I believe in continual learning and maximising the support that is out there, through other networks, like-minded businesses or coaching. As a woman, I’ve found it is a fine balance between remaining humble and acknowledging I don’t know it all, whilst not allowing imposter syndrome to show it’s face too often. I am proud of the compassionate way I lead our business, balancing the need for commercial success with what is best for our people and the planet, and I am honoured to stand alongside other incredible women in our business.

⭐ What advice would you give to other women aspiring to senior leadership roles?

Never underestimate the importance of having the right people around you in the right roles. Make sure processes and systems are in place to support you and the business and go after it. Set goals as you go and re-evaluate regularly and be willing to learn more from the times you fail. Join groups, lift each other up and make sure you work in a business you feel passionately about. Take care of your physical and mental health – looking after that is part of your responsibility as a thriving leader. Some of my best decisions are made on a run!
